Imacec registró fuerte caída de 3,5% en marzo

Este lunes 5 de mayo el Banco Central dio a conocer el Índice Mensual de Actividad Económica (Imacec), el que registró una preocupante caída del 3,5% durante marzo, en comparación con igual mes del año anterior. Esta baja coincide con la aparición del Coronavirus en nuestro país, así como las medidas restrictivas para el aislamiento social.
Según el registro del Banco Central, la serie desestacionalizada disminuyó 5,7% respecto del mes precedente, y 4,1% en doce meses. En otras palabras, se trata de la mayor caída desde noviembre pasado (-4%), evidenciando un efecto similar al del experimentado en la economía tras el estallido social o también desde el año 2009 con la crisis financiera internacional.
En este contexto, las actividades más afectadas fueron el comercio y los servicios, en este último destacaron las caídas de educación, transporte, restaurantes y hoteles. En tanto, el Imacec minero creció 0,8%, mientras que el no minero cayó 4,0%.
Una medida que ha tomado el Gobierno debido a las caídas económicas, es el recorte de presupuesto en varias organizaciones, como es el caso de Bomberos de Chile, que podría tener un recorte este año de $3.755.793 millones. El ministro del Interior, Gonzalo Blumel, indicó respecto a esta situación que “hoy día el país está enfrentando una situación muy excepcional por la pandemia. Ese recorte presupuestario, que no nos gusta, se ha hecho con muchísimas instituciones”, explicó.
Por su parte, y ante este panorama complejo para la economía, el ministro de Hacienda, Ignacio Briones, expresó que “entramos en meses donde la actividad económica va a caer significativamente, se vienen meses muy complicados que nos van a golpear duro. Del mismo modo, la cifra económica de marzo está en línea como lo esperábamos, números negativos, es muy malo, pero que debiera hacernos reflexionar respecto a cómo se vienen los meses que siguen, donde esperamos una contracción más significativa, aunque transitoria pero potente. Debemos lograr ver la luz al final del túnel”.
A pesar de las cifras entregadas, aún no se puede hablar de recesión. Desde el Banco Central, señalaron que “dado que una recesión técnica se define en base a variaciones trimestrales del PIB, es necesario esperar a la publicación de dichas cuentas para el primer trimestre, la que está anunciada para el 18 de mayo. Descansar solo en la acumulación de cifras mensuales del Imacec puede ser aventurado, dado que se trata solo de una medida provisoria, que frecuentemente experimenta ajustes en el cierre trimestral”.
