Luego de que la semana pasada se hiciera viral en China una información en la que se alertaba sobre trazos de Covid-19 en un embarque de cerezas provenientes de Chile hacia el gigante asiático, inmediatamente se generó una caída en los precios y una notable baja en el consumo, perjudicando gravemente a la industria. La información posteriormente fue desmentida por el canal CCTV en la red social Weibo, pero al parecer ya era tarde y la polémica ya estaba instalada.
De acuerdo a la Asociación de Exportadores (Asoex) el número de publicaciones en redes sociales que mantienen a las cerezas chilenas en trending topic, superan las 200 mil, siendo el 31% con comentarios negativos.
En tanto, desde el gremio estiman en 95% la caída del consumo general de esa fruta entre una semana y otra. Esto afectó los precios, los que ya caían en torno a 60%. La rotación, en tanto, se ubicó en 4%, situación que dista de los mayores niveles de un periodo normal.
La ministra de Agricultura, María Emilia Undurraga, demostró preocupación ante este escenario y aseguró que tomaría contacto con el Ministro de la Administración General de Aduanas de la República Popular China, Ni Yuefeng, para abordar esta situación.
Cabe destacar que la temporada de cerezas está en su pleno momento y que apenas se han comercializado 130 millones de kilos de cerezas, restando todavía por vender unos 190 millones de kilos, los que equivalen a US$1.200 millones.
Según cifras del Banco Central, en 2019 los envíos de cerezas aumentaron 44% interanual hasta US$1.562 millones, cifra que se explicó justamente por la mayor demanda de China, lo que hizo que la cereza superara por primera vez a la uva (US$1.194 millones) como la principal fruta de exportación.
