Montos de intercambio comercial entre Chile y la Unión Europea se han duplicado durante los últimos 17 años

Según un estudio elaborado por la Subsecretaría de Relaciones Económicas Internacionales (Subrei), durante los últimos 17 años en que entró en vigencia la suscripción de un acuerdo comercial entre Chile y la Unión Europea, los montos de intercambio se han duplicado totalizando US$18.228 millones en 2019, con una tasa media de expansión anual de 5%.
Esto quiere decir que la UE es el tercer socio comercial de Chile, con una participación de 13% del comercio total del país en 2019, frente a un 21% de participación en 2003, lo que responde a la irrupción de socios asiáticos, como China, Corea y Japón, sumando por otra parte también a Estados Unidos.
Esto también se puede traducir a que las exportaciones nacionales hacia el bloque han mejorado 1,4 veces en estos 17 años, siendo actualmente Europa el cuarto destino de los envíos nacionales, y el tercero de cobre y servicios.
A la par, la UE es hoy el principal inversionista en Chile, representando un 33%, equivalente a una inversión acumulada materializada de US$91.541 millones en 2018. Además, el acuerdo ha impactado positivamente en las pequeñas y medianas empresas locales, que representan el 48% de las firmas que venden a la UE.
El jefe de la Subrei, Rodrigo Yáñez, indicó que el acuerdo “abrió las puertas a una de las mayores economías del mundo, lo que ha generado amplias oportunidades para el crecimiento y desarrollo económico de nuestro país”.
Yañez también mencionó que tradicionalmente la inversión europea en Chile se ha enfocado en energía, servicios financieros, transporte y comunicaciones, pero que actualmente “hay nuevas industrias con mucho potencial, como el hidrógeno verde, que estamos seguros que va a atraer también inversión extranjera europea”.
Por su parte, el embajador de la UE en Chile, León de la Torre, agregó que gracias al tratado ha cambiado la composición de las exportaciones chilenas. “La fruta, el vino o los productos del mar han sido grandes beneficiarios del mismo, registrando, durante muchos años, un crecimiento de dos dígitos”, mencionó.
