Recomendaciones para cuidar salud mental de niños en cuarentena

Lo primero que se debe destacar cuando se habla de estrés en niños, es que este tipo de factores emocionales y psicológicos pueden desencadenar en un diagnóstico de patologías o trastornos psicológicos que alteren la conducta de los menores, sobre todo en circunstancias extremas o anormales que modifican sus rutinas diarias y escenarios cotidianos, como la suspensión de clases y la cuarentena a causa de la pandemia por Covid-19. Por tal motivo, es muy importante y positivo que los padres tengan en cuenta diversas formas y maneras que le permitan cuidar la salud mental de sus hijos en tiempos complicados, en lo que muchas veces se conjugan el teletrabajo, las clases online y compartir en familia durante el confinamiento.
Es este sentido, es importante mencionar que durante este periodo en que el núcleo familiar permanece en casa, se debe tener una organización de la rutina y ser muy organizados y cuidadosos en otorgar el tiempo adecuado a todas las actividades del día a día de los pequeños, donde se debe repartir el horario en cumplir con sus deberes escolares, sus horas de sueño, de alimentación, de juego, ocio y la contención emocional.
El ocio es un punto importante porque es un espacio en el cual el niño se permite crear e imaginar actividades que, de alguna manera, van construyendo de acuerdo a lo que tienen el entorno. Si bien es cierto que los juegos de mesa son importantes y ayudan muchísimo al trabajo cognitivo y también al trabajo de interacción social o a las habilidades de interacción social con la familia, el ocio es parte fundamental del pensamiento creativo y, por lo tanto, en este período de pandemia la invitación es a que los niños puedan generar o tener mayores instancias de pensamiento creativo y de ocio.
Otro aspecto relevante tiene que ver con el vínculo afectivo entre los padres y los hijos. Acá se debe estar alerta a las señales conductuales que van presentando los menores y ante cualquier situación de estrés, llanto adicional, malestar permanente o indicador que esté afectando o alterando la conducta de los niños, hacer un stop dentro del día, detenerse y conversar, escuchar, dar contención y entregar afecto con un lenguaje cercano, concreto y muy claro, con palabras que de alguna manera llamen a la calma y la tranquilidad, dando por sobretodo seguridad y estabilidad emocional. Pese a las circunstancias, al estrés y pese a todo lo que está sucediendo, el lenguaje y el mensaje de los padres debe ser de tranquilidad, de seguridad, de equilibrio y que todo esto es transitorio, que luego de este periodo, que va a pasar porque no es eterno, se podrá nuevamente salir, jugar con la familia o los amigos, y volver a la normalidad.
Del mismo modo, algunas recomendaciones generales sobre qué hacer o cómo tratar el estrés en caso de mucha actividad escolar o de mucha demanda, son:
-Técnica de la respiración, que ayuda bastante a que los niños puedan volver a tener el control y calmarse; la organización del día, ya que es importante que los niños tengan paneles anticipación para que puedan de alguna manera bajar los niveles de ansiedad y anticiparse a las rutinas del día a día.
-Espacios de autocuidado, es decir, dentro del día tener un bloque o algún espacio tanto físico como dentro del calendario, que le permita hacer algo que le guste mucho, puede ser algo en su habitación o alguna parte de la casa, que le permita al niño bajar los niveles de ansiedad o estrés cuando lo esté pasando mal.
-Hacer video llamadas cortas y precisas durante la jornada que permitan conectar a los niños con sus seres queridos y amigos, que se cuenten historias, jueguen algo entretenido o celebren cumpleaños, todo esto ayuda bastante a que los niños estén más cercano con sus pares y no se sientan tan solos en este periodo.
-Salir por lo menos un par de veces a la semana para que puedan recorrer algún espacio libre. Es difícil que estén encerrado todos los días, por lo tanto, pedir los permisos adecuados y seguir las medidas de seguridad en todo momento para que puedan ir a un parque o alguna plaza por un periodo de tiempo corto, o al interior del condominio o donde sea, para que puedan relajarse y cambiar de aire por unos momentos.
-Otra actividad que fomenta mucho la relajación y que ayuda a los niños a conectarse con sus emociones es poder tener p sembrar una pequeña huerta en casa, donde poder regar y cuidar plantas o flores, entender cómo es la naturaleza, y es una estrategia que también permite la distracción y generar un espacio de vinculación entre todos los integrantes de la familia, lo que por supuesto favorece los estados emocionales.
-Escribir cartas a abuelos, familiares o amigos y guardarlas para que después, en algún momento, sean entregadas. Así también favorecemos la lectura y la escritura.
