Latam anuncia cierre de operaciones en Argentina

En medio de la fuerte crisis que atraviesa la industria aérea a raíz de la propagación del Covid-19 a nivel mundial, Latam anunció que cerrará sus vuelos internos en Argentina por tiempo indeterminado, con lo que aerolínea que lleva adelante un proceso de reestructuración de deudas bajo la protección del Capítulo 11 de la Ley de Quiebras de Estados Unidos, pone fin a una presencia de quince años en el país trasandino.
La dificultad de generar acuerdos con los actores de la industria local, necesarios para poder desarrollar el negocio, contribuyeron a configurar un escenario en extremo complejo, que los llevó a tomar la decisión. El diagnóstico era que no estaban dadas las condiciones para sostener en el largo plazo las operaciones de la filial.
Aunque se barajaron otras opciones, como achicar la operación para no desarmar la empresa, finalmente se optó por el camino más radical. “No es posible visualizar un proyecto viable y sustentable en el tiempo”, señaló Latam en un comunicado.
En tanto, el CEO de Latam, Roberto Alvo, mencionó al respecto de la decisión que es “una noticia lamentable pero inevitable. Latam hoy debe enfocarse en la transformación del grupo para adaptarse a la aviación post Covid-19. Argentina ha sido siempre un país fundamental y lo seguirá siendo. Las otras filiales del grupo Latam continuarán conectando a pasajeros de ese país con América Latina y el mundo”.
Por su parte, el ministro de Transporte argentino, Mario Meoni, afirmó que el gobierno buscará que la aerolínea revierta la medida. “Esperamos encontrar un camino que permita que Latam siga operando en la Argentina y los trabajadores no pierdan su fuente de trabajo”, indicó la autoridad.
De esta manera, Latam Airlines Argentina dejará de volar los 12 destinos domésticos que operaba, mientras que los cuatro destinos internacionales a Estados Unidos, Brasil, Chile y Perú continuarán siendo operados por las otras filiales del grupo. Esto, una vez que se levanten las restricciones dictadas por las autoridades en el marco de la emergencia sanitaria.
En cuanto al panorama general de la aerolínea, Roberto Alvo indicó que el impacto en las operaciones y resultados en el grupo Latam ha sido profundo, registrando una venta mensual en mayo de US$150 millones, versus los US$850 millones promedio de 2019. Se transportaron 200 mil pasajeros, tuvieron 60 vuelos diarios y el factor de ocupación fue de 44%.
