Los recursos serán gestionados por Desafío Levantemos Chile, para entregar clínicas móviles, monitores y exámenes de anti-cuerpos a hospitales y poblaciones vulnerables, y Fundación Chile, para donar elementos de protección personal y otros insumos de primera necesidad a hogares de adultos mayores apoyados por el Servicio Nacional del Adulto Mayor (Senama) del Ministerio de Desarrollo Social y Familia.
Los recursos son parte de la donación de US$ 10 millones anunciada por UnitedHealth Group para aportar en la lucha contra la pandemia del COVID-19 en los países donde opera, que incluye además a Brasil, Colombia, Filipinas, India, Irlanda, Perú y Portugal.
En Chile, UHG es controladora de Empresas Banmédica, el grupo de salud privado más grande del país, conformado por las clínicas Santa María, Dávila, Vespucio, Ciudad del Mar, Biobío, los centros médicos Vidaintegra, HMC y HELP, además de las Isapres Banmédica y Vida Tres.
Parte del aporte de Empresas Banmédica a Desafío Levantemos Chile ($128 millones), entregado a Desafío Araucanía Virtual, está destinado a la región de La Araucanía con kits de elementos de protección personal y monitores para los hospitales de la zona, y kits de toma de muestra para evitar que poblaciones vulnerables acudan a servicios de salud para hacerse el examen de Covid-19.
Los recursos tienen como objetivo apoyar a aquellos grupos más afectados por este nuevo virus, como son los adultos mayores y los pacientes y trabajadores de los centros de salud que enfrentan diariamente la crisis sanitaria, particularmente en las zonas más afectadas de la Región Metropolitana y La Araucanía.
«La pandemia del COVID-19 ha exacerbado las dificultades que enfrentan las personas más expuestas y vulnerables de Chile, como son las poblaciones de mayor riesgo, trabajadores de la salud y residentes de establecimientos de larga estadía de adultos mayores», afirma Fernando Matthews, gerente general de Empresas Banmédica, quien agrega que «la colaboración con Desafío Levantemos Chile y Fundación Chile proporcionará una ayuda crucial a quienes más la necesitan en esta situación sin precedentes».
En esa misma dirección, el gerente general de Fundación Chile, Marcos Kulka, valoró el trabajo colaborativo que están desarrollando para enfrentar la crisis, con actores del mundo público y privado. “Hemos logrado identificar aquellos hogares de adulto mayor de Santiago que hoy no reciben ningún apoyo y que necesitan insumos de protección personal para sus residentes, trabajadores de la salud y empleados».
Según añadió el ejecutivo “el apoyo de Empresas Banmédica tendrá un impacto positivo y directo en la capacidad de los hogares para atender a sus adultos mayores y para proteger adecuadamente a los trabajadores y empleados de la salud que se desempeñan en estos recintos”.
«Desafío Levantemos Chile se compromete a apoyar a los hospitales públicos de Santiago y la Araucanía, los cuales intentan hacer frente a un dramático aumento de la demanda de sus servicios generada por la pandemia de COVID-19», sostiene Nicolás Birrell, director ejecutivo de Desafío Levantemos Chile. «Nuestros trabajadores de la salud nos necesitan ahora más que nunca, por lo que agradecemos profundamente a Empresas Banmédica y UnitedHealth Group por su generosa contribución, que materializará la compra y entrega de pruebas de anticuerpos y EPP para pacientes y personal de salud», añade.
La donación incluye:
• $426.000.000 a Desafío Levantemos Chile para proporcionar apoyo logístico, equipamiento e insumos médicos a hospitales de la zona Sur-Oriente de Santiago y de la Región de la Araucanía, entre los que se incluyen clínicas móviles, test rápidos, kit de toma de muestras, monitores y kits de equipamiento de protección personal, como mascarillas KN95, guantes desechables, protector facial y pechera plástica.
• $426.00.000 a Fundación Chile para el financiamiento de insumos de protección sanitaria y canastas con artículos de aseo e insumos de primera necesidad para apoyar a 23 hogares de adultos mayores en la Región Metropolitana sin fines de lucro, sin subsidio y en situación de gran vulnerabilidad, monitoreados por el Servicio Nacional del Adulto Mayor (Senama).
